Sanitized Coverage?

Q: What do rightwing blogger John Hawkins and MSNBC's Keith Olbermann have in common?

A: Both have been bumped from covering the Republican convention.

Hawkins didn't get his application for media credentials approved, he says because of critical posts he has written which irritated the McCain campaign, particularly on immigration. AP reports that Olbermann has been re-assigned.

Keith Olbermann was pulled from St. Paul to anchor MSNBC's storm coverage from New York, with his seat beside Chris Matthews filled by David Gregory. Capus said political considerations had nothing to do with that move; Olbermann has been sharply critical of the GOP.

You believe that, right? Sounds to me like the McCain campaign only wants McFournier types in attendance.

Noel Sheppard at the rightwing News Busters site is oh-so disappointed about Olbermann's absence. So just to cheer him up here's some classic Keith from January -

Republicans are very very anal about their propaganda. Everything has to be perfecto! voilà!

amy goodman was arrested at the rnc today

nobody pulled hannity or the rest of the wingnuts credentials for the dnc...and hannity spent the entire 4 days mocking the entire convention

what liberal press

who cares...i just hope that sarah makes alot of appearances.... im very horny and need some political porn

Gosh why would the RNC not want Olbermann there?

It's not like he's covered their never ending series of fuck ups with glee.

Mittens got the second most number of votes, he was entitled to the VP slot!!

David Gregory is insufferable. I can't stand to look at his face. There is something wrong with it.

I think Olbermann was removed because MSNBC was afraid he was eventually going to deck Matthews onair!

Yeah, I saw a bit of Keith tonight and thought it was odd he was only covering the hurricane.....he didn't look real happy.

Anyone see Larry King tonight? I just heard about 10 minutes of him when I was travelling in my car. James Carville was on along with another Dem, facing off with Michelle Bachmann and I believe Amanda Carpenter from Townhall.com.

Man, Carville really tore Bachmann and Carpenter apart over Palin. Larry King was asking about the Bristol baby thing....Carville gave him a brief answer....and then went into Palin's qualifications.....just got her passport last year; been out of the country once;she voted for Pat Buchanan for Pres; he apparently showed or talked about city hall in Wasilla, or wherever she was major of, and said that it looked like some drug store in Louisiana; and in response to Bachmann saying that Palin sold a government plane on email (as evidence of her executive power), Carville asked, "and selling an airplane on Ebay makes you qualified for VP?" It was funny....have to watch it again....sure there will be a rerun later on CNN, or maybe C&L can find it and put it up.

Larry King asked Bachmann twice if Palin was the "most qualified" candidate for the job. Bachmann couldn't answer....first she said something to the effect that John McCain picked her, blah, blah, blah....and when asked a second time, she said that Palin "Is qualified." Bachmann is such a stupid repug....just cannot stand her.

I still don't really know what to make of this all. I just cannot believe what I've been hearing. Either these Repug defenders are so incredibly stupid and ignorant, or they are just making something up in order to avoid saying that Palin is not qualified. In either case, I feel sorry for them.

Chuck Norris got kicked in the head one too many times.

Is that gregory of the rap group Karls Rove?

Will C&L cover police repression of Amy Goodman and Democracy Now

love the line... 'they are a long way from selecting a nominee, more so than the Democrats'

Damn! I was hoping Olbermann would be present to discuss the unlawful arrests being carried out right now at the convention. I was hoping he would have Amy Goodman on, who was arrested today (for "conspiracy to commit a riot") for asking police why they were unlawfully arresting other people (including her producers).

Hey, Site Monitor...where is the story??

LOL!!! I think McCain thought the same thing. He knows he's going to lose and he might as well go out with Caribou Barbie (along w/ his Vicodine Barbie).

Remember Gregory defending the MSM on supporting the Iraqi invasion.....here is his reward.

I would guess the RNC thinks there isn't much Barney Rubble...uh, I mean David Gregory...can do to make the GOP look bad.

Have I mentioned how much I hate Gregory lately?

the McCain campaign is now saying that Sarah Palin is "Commander in Chief" of the Alaska National Guard that is fighting in Iraq. General Palin to the rescue!!!
mooseburgers for the the warriors, of course.

you guys are gonna have to watch this convention for me... no olbermann and no amy goodman makes for a very bad time indeed... democracy now, daily show and crooks were my sources for the dem convention, which was painful enough... i like a good trainwrech as much as the next guy but this is getting too sad to watch...

He should join the Daily Show coverage instead!

PS: I'd pay to see KO bitchslap Tweety on-air!

Now what was that about liberal media??? The corporate money guys are pulling the strings again and trying to filter what the American people hear and see. Dumbing down of America is Alive and Well.

check this ABCNNEWS youtube of GOP guys partying in the twin cities over the week-end with lobbyist friends.

some shock and lols in this one

what are they gonna do next? arrest jon stewart?
actually, that would be great in a martyr sense...

David Gregory should wear ELEPHANT EARS every time he appears on TV. He's an unapologetic cheerleader for the GOP and the McCain campaign.

The BEST Olbermann moment last week was when The SCAR was pontificating on an un-probable re-surgeance of the Republican party... and finally he took a breath, and the shot went to Keith, and Keith said, "Are you DONE!" It was hilarious... and it left Scarbourough SPEECHLESS. Joe SCAR is a pompass ASS... and Keith sliced him like he was soft butter.

... and I just saw my first Rachel Maddow Show promo on MSNBC. YEA!

I've been noticing something for a long time, but it just hit me tonight as I went to that NewsBuster site to see what that JO had to say about KO.

Do you ever notice that on many right wing web sites, as tonight on NewsBusters, there are often T-shirt ads featuring young, attractive, sexy women wearing those tight t-shirts. Those t-shirts very often have right wing slogans on them attacking liberals and Democrats.

Wouldn't that be considered to be "sexist?" That is, using young, attractive, sexy women wearing tight clothes to advertise something?

I wonder how it is sexist when guys ask if Palin is qualified to be Vice President?

First no GWBush or Dick Cheney speeches, now no Keith Oberman - I guess they don't care about my eyeballs

I'll be leaving the TV off and will stick to the blogs and YouTube

The only thing that anyone will remember about this week is that Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant, and her husband has a DWI on his record, and Palin's office has hired an attorney to defend her in the "Troopergate" scandal.

Palin's only qualification for VP is her pro-life stance.

McCain put the evangelical vote first, not country first. Shame on him and shame on Sarah Palin for exploiting her pregnant teenage daughter.

Gregory is the spitting image of Howdy Doody!

Well that's pretty cowardly, considering that the Dems had to put up with Scarborough pissing on them from a great height for three days, and considering that the Repubs even let MICHAEL MOORE in to their 2004 convention.

The RNC- Radical Nazi Coalition does not believe in a free press that is why they had Amy Goodman from Democracy Now arrested today along with her reporters. The St Paul Fascist Police are attacking citizens and doing "preemptive" attacks on would be protesters. The RNC has finally gotten what they wanted a Nazi government protected by nazi cops.

Welcome to the new world Republican order. . . "All the cops are criminals, all the sinners saints. . ."

Obviously, Capus is in McInsane's pocket, and no doubt took marching orders from the Rethuglicans about making sure Olbermann was not in the MSNBC booth. They want no part of the truth about how corrupt they are. David Gregory is very safe since he doesn't know where is ass is and couldn't find it with both hands. Matthews is so wishy-washy that he is safe for the Rethuglicans. The mucky mucks at MSNBC are the real cowards.

Can't hurt the liddle repuddington's feelings by being too hard on them when they put all that energy into their big screen convention background. duh.

In all reality. Ask them the damn questions and make them answer. Campbell Brown did a decent job of that with Tucker whoever.. McCain's spokesperson.

Lots of "sanitizing" going on...

Ummmm? When was the last natural disaster in Alaska? When was the last time the Alaska National Guard was dispatched for some foreign policy by a Governor?
Damn,,,,,I’m starting to laugh so hard I can’t type anymore.

The RNC is a freaking mess. There are arrest of protesters including Amy Goodman. There has been damage by protesters breaking windows. The whole Bristol Palin thing that I'm not supposed to talk or think about because it's none of my business. The trooper gate.

Good God. I can't imagine Palin as president. She seems like a wack job. Can anyone tell me why this country was subjected to this VP pick, picked solely because it made the conservative Christian right comfortable? When did the Christian Right start running the country for the rest of us?

My blood runs cold.

New CBS Poll... September 1st... Good news...

Poll: Obama/Biden Take Eight-Point Lead

(CBS) Democratic nominee Barack Obama's lead over Republican John McCain has grown after the Democratic convention, which 71 percent of Americans say they watched. Obama and his running mate Joe Biden now lead McCain and Sarah Palin 48 percent to 40 percent, according to the latest CBS News poll.

This is the first CBS News poll to include the vice presidential candidates in the horserace question.

The eight-point lead for the Democratic ticket is up from Obama’s three-point lead before the convention. But there are still a significant number of voters who have yet to firmly make up their minds.

Before the Democratic convention, McCain enjoyed a 12-point advantage with independent voters, but now Obama leads among this group 43 percent to 37 percent. Obama's lead among women has also grown to 14 points (50 percent to 36 percent), and the Democrat maintained the lead he had before the convention among voters who supported Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries.

The poll shows an increase in the number of Obama voters who are enthusiastic about him. Sixty-seven percent of Obama voters say they enthusiastically support him, which is up from 48 percent who said so before the convention. About a quarter of McCain’s backers are enthusiastic about him--unchanged from before the Democratic convention.

Sixty-three percent of registered voters say Obama understands their needs and problems, while just 41 percent say that about McCain. And after the Democratic convention, 58 percent of voters say Obama is "tough enough," which is up from 48 percent in early August.

Thats hilarious that they'd say 100% Palin now. Last time I looked at it it said 15 minutes left. Ohhh yeaahhhh. Their in full panic mode now.

On Sunday Gregory actually said he thought it was "cool" that Palin got on an airplane AFTER her water broke for a six or seven hour flight to get back to Alaska from Texas.

IS HE KIDDING? That decision was not cool... that was insanely stupid. It was supposedly an at-risk pregnancy (Down's Syndrome,) and it was coming to term early, and it was directly at odds with ALL GUIDELINES for when prognant women should or should not fly. I just did.

Dear Sirs,

As long as Keith Olberman is not covering the RNC, there is no point in my watching it. David Gregory and Chris Matthews are not my idea of balanced coverage.

You have made a big mistake and it is clearly partisan. I get the feeling you don't want some facts to come out. Olberman is a classy man, Matthews is unpredictably egotistically a microphone kidnapper who interviews people poorly. Gregory is so obviously a right leaning opinion commentator. We need Keith to balance out the right wing influence.

Don't you care about this country? Where is the coverage on the arrest of Amy Goodman?

Palin hires defense attorney for Troopergate investigation

Excerpt:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate, is being represented by an attorney in the investigation into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

The Legislature is investigating whether Palin fired public safety commissioner Walt Monegan after he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin's sister.

The Legislature's investigating committee disclosed the attorney's hiring on Monday. The committee released an e-mailed letter it had received from the lawyer on Friday, the day McCain announced she would be McCain's running mate.

"We have been hired to represent the Governor and the Governor's Office" in the investigation, Anchorage attorney Thomas V. Van Flein wrote. "We fully welcome a fair inquiry into these allegations. ... Please know that we intend to cooperate with this investigation."

Tucker Eskew, a senior McCain adviser, said the state, not Palin herself, hired the attorney to represent her in her capacity as governor, and he has been working for several weeks.

"The governor of every state gets legal counsel and this attorney is part of a weeks-old effort to provide this governor defense in a series of outlandish politically motivated charges," Eskew said. "This legal defense is neither new nor uncommon nor at all political. It is a matter of her job and is not recent and it is not related to her selection on the McCain-Palin ticket."

Van Flein requested a copy of all witness statements and documentary evidence from the Legislature's investigator, Stephen Branchflower. Sen. Hollis French, an Anchorage Democrat who heads the panel, said he has instructed Branchflower not to comply with the request.

In July, a legislative oversight committee approved $100,000 to investigate whether Palin abused her power in firing Monegan.

I don't understand why Romney dropped out. I felt he was a better candidate (with better judgment) than McCain.

After the GOP controlled government sends down marching orders for gestapo type military action against the protests and their actions to remove media opposition from covering the Republican convention there's no doubt that we're rapidly losing our Constitutional rights and becoming a dictatorship. Although I don't think it's going to happen, if the GOP successfully steals this election, you'll not only see the next World war, but there will be a civil war in this country.

Paul @ 66:

Last few weeks, with the violent arrests at the democratic convention, one by a cigar chomping thug, to Amy's arrest, to Olbermann being banned from the convention, to the unbelievable lack of rational commentary about the rep vp choice, I think we're in information lockdown. It is truly Orwellian to hear the same people who, for weeks, repeated over and over all sorts of reasons why obama wasn't qualified to be president, treat this same meme as if they never mentioned it in the first place.

We're very, very close to a complete takeover by the fascists. I figured they'd do something before the election, and I think this is just the warmup. But I tend to be cynical, so perhaps things aren't as bad as I fear they are.

SITE MONITOR... you should bring the Investigation Committee's response letter to the attention of John or Nicole!

It priceless stuff... Palin in trying to pressure the investigation into troopergate from inside the Alaskan government and using an attorney to suggest that the states Judiciary committee doesn't have the power to investigate her... and the Senate Judiciary committee is telling her and her attorney to blow it out their... well lets just say they are having none of it and demanding that she complies with their demand to be deposed!

Daingel @ 65:

Good catch! This story is looking more and more like it has legs because Palin is trying everything in the book to get out of being deposed and shut the investigation down. That was one very pissed attorney in that letter... evidently she thinks that she is in the White House already and claim executive privilege.

My mother's complaining lately that she feels like she's back in the USSR. Is it all going downhill? Where to next, Canada?

Let's also be careful about left-leaning websites. Just earlier on huffington post, they had a headline that called the protesters 'anarchists.' Not the first time the site's headlined republican talking points. Sort of reminds you of the time huffington was a republican.

I went to the poll site that was put up by your RNC earlier in the day. Now I see the post that says Palin for VP 100%.
WHAT A CROC
If the republicans win your country is screwed, especially if they're going to change a poll result like this

Seems funny that the thugs like to call us commies just like the KKK was infamous for, but they use communist tactics for their own polls.

Remember when Saddam was also at 100% of the poll at election time?

I also will NOT watch MSNBC's coverage of the REPUB convention if Olbermann is not reporting on it. I refuse to acquiesce in the communist tactics of creating the news instead of reporting it. I stopped watching CNN after being a loyal viewer for years because they decided reporting news was not as important as showcasing their bloviating wigs like Wolf Blitza and Anderson Coopa. Now it seems that MSNBC is trying to outdo them? Enough! I removed links to AP from my homepage and no longer read any article written by them. Again, propaganda is not something I prefer to read instead of real news. So MSNBC, take Olbermann off the Minnesota assignment, and watch the number of eyeballs watching your news plummet.

I hope all good progressives will join me in boycotting MSNBC while they are covering the Repub Convention. Yeah baby! Go Keith!

Keith Olbermann is a political commentator, not a news reporter. If he headed up the DNC coverage, then he needs to be at the RNC convention.

Today the RNC had its schedule severely cut, so KO is not exactly at a loss here.
What's he gonna do all day without any major speeches to dissect? Bash Matthews?

I forgot to put a link to Flein's letter to the Investigator himself Branchflower, who turned the letter over the Judiciary committee.

#43...Rasputin Says

About the polls......but, but, but, I just heard Sean Hannity say that Obama is only up by 1 point....yep, only 1 point.

Seriously, as much as I like that CBS poll and other polls today, this thing is nowhere finished, and we have to keep it up. The GOP has got to have something up their sleeve with all of the insanity going on with Palin. It boggles the mind when I hear stuff such as Cindy McCain defending Palin by saying that Alaska is close to Russia.

Bing! I just figured it out......Palin is the new Messiah who can do everything! She's the new "One"! That's got to be it.

Priceless stuff!

My favorite part was when he told her attorney not to think about suggesting that they don't have the power to investigate her and NO! you can't have copies of all of the witnesses testimony that we have collected so far AND... Governor Palin has not responded to our request to set up a date for her to be deposed and you better see to it!

Question:

1) The convention is being broadcast live
2) All that a convention pass does is allow *physical access* to the convention floor and its surroundings
3) There is no way that anyone can stop Olberman from commenting as a "guest" via satellite

So why not have him do an end run around this obvious GOP tomfoolery as a guest to his show?

Hey Mythical Me, if you're still out there, I would love to see that pic!! If you upload it, please do post the link.

Thanks!!

What happened to the Open Thread? I get a 404 error message.

Is it too being "sanitized"?
