Thanks, Sarah! Planned Parenthood Gets Upsurge In Donations
By Nicole Belle Wednesday Sep 24, 2008 4:00pm
Planned Parenthood is suddenly a lot richer because of Sarah Palin.
And the Republican vice presidential nominee will soon be receiving tens of thousands of thank-you notes.
A three-week-old Internet campaign is asking abortion-rights activists to send donations to Planned Parenthood in honor of the Alaska governor.[..]
One e-mail making the rounds on the Internet says: "Instead of (actually, in addition to) all of us all sending more e-mails about how absolutely horrible she is, let's all make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Sarah Palin's name."
Katie Groke Ellis, field manager for the Planned Parenthood of the Rockies Action Fund, predicts that the five-state chapter of the group alone could draw $100,000 in donations.[..]
Planned Parenthood sends a handwritten thank-you card to the donor. If a donation is made in someone's name, he or she gets one, too.
In this case, the Palin cards will go to Republican presidential nominee John McCain's national headquarters.
Never thought I'd say this, but thank goodness for Sarah Palin!

Woah.
I'm donating again today.
Finally, some good news today!
Sounds like the right kind of mean :)
Although, I assume there is a minimum donation for a card, otherwise it gets eaten up by postage.
It's totally awesome. We sent ours yesterday. My husband laughed so hard while he did it. What's with the horrible video, though? Could they have shown more locks, chains and security fences and from all those crazy angles? I was waiting for a guy in prison stripes to be shown breaking out.
I'm pro choice but I think as the donation scheme is openly opposite to Palin's views, Planned parenthood should not send the thank you notes.
Thanks, Sarah! Planned Parenthood Gets UPSURGE In Donations
Sounds kinda erotic to me.
You mean that there are some redeeming values to Failin Pale-in?
This is terrific news!
Think of it this way: if Obama gets elected, NRA donations will go WAY up.
The economies of the fundamentalists are strong
VietVet8666 @ 9:
Okay. It's still funny.
This is asinine. Stuff like this becomes fodder for the Limbaughs of the world and energizes abortion opponents for the McCain campaign
Doesn't seem like Bristol Palin planned her parenthood very well. Sarah must have missed an abstinence before marriage talk with Bristol. Not to worry, Sarah will try to force it down the throats of the rest of us.
Gregg @ 10:
The fundamentalists in this economy are strong.
I donated. Would've donated more if I could've afforded it, but that's the economy for you.
Maybe I'll donate again when my next paycheck comes 'round.
TBogg doing his part
Breaking: More teens choose sex over abstinence.
Planned Parenthood vs. Palin Parenthood. tough choice.
I donated last week... but someone else had another suggestion... the minimum donation is $5 online... So if you donate $25, why not break it up into 5 $5 donations... then she gets 5 thank yous instead of one...
But Good on Planned Parenthood and whoever started this viral campaign.
I hope this gets to the National Media...
READ THIS AS AN EXAMPLE OF ELECTING AN OLD PRESIDENT AND HAVING AN INCOMPETENT VP UNDER HIM.
When I was 17 and living in Brazil in 1985, Brazil was going back to democracy after 20+ years of Military rule.
The first President post Military rule was to be a 75 year old Tancredo Neves, he won the election (which was still indirect at the time) and the country lived a moment of euphoria and hope. He was highly trusted among Brazilians so 1985 was starting and it was new times in Brazil. Things were looking great!
But then (from wiki):
However, just one day before he was scheduled to take the oath of office (March 15, 1985), Neves became severely ill. He suffered from abdominal complications and developed generalized infections. After seven operations, Tancredo Neves died on April 21, 1985[2]. He was succeeded by José Sarney. Neves's ordeal was intensively covered by the Brazilian media and followed with anxiety by the whole nation, who had seen in him the way out of the authoritarian regime into what he had called a "New Republic" (Nova República). His death caused an outpouring of national grief. Tancredo Neves is counted among the official list of presidents of Brazil as a matter of homage and honour, since technically he never became president.
His death was devastating to the country and his runningmate Sarney took over.
What followed was one of the worst 4 years segments in Brazilian economic history. Sarney was a disaster. In 1989 the first Direct Presidential election was held and Sarney was finally gone.
Moral of the story is that a VP pick for a 70-something year old is very important and McCain which is close to Tancredos age when he died and Sarah Palin is not what you want to be President in case something happens to McCain.
People need to think outside their party lines. Any Republican that says Palin is A-OK cannot be serious.
Ruthless People @ 14:
The fundamentals of our economists are from a bong
Thank goodness!
But not Sarah Palin's goodness.
It is her lack of goodness that made this possible.
It shows that it spite of one's self, it is possible to make a positive impact on society.
It's republican reverse leadership. She points the way by illustrating through her belief system and behavior what not to do so that people are motivated to do the opposite.
This is actually kind of disturbing. It kind of feeds into the whole stereotype of "Liberals kill babies"
Katie is my cousin-in-law. She will be seriously flattered to be featured on C&L!!!!
Any wife who calls her husband "First Dude" is trailer trash.
Sooooooo....let's see. The U.S. and Pakistan are about to go to war by accident, but Palin might be able to prevent it because the new President of Pakistan has a crush on her. Lucky escape.
Chris @ 22:
I told my teen girls that if I told them abstinence was the only form of birth control, they could shoot me for being terminally stupid. Planned Parenthood means avoid becoming pregnant before you are ready and is more comprehensive and by the way includes abstinence but is not abstinence only.
One thing I've noticed about Palin and it may be why the McCain campaign doesn't really want her answering questions. Well, beside the not-too-bright thing.
She fires up her mouth before her brain is fully engaged. You can actually count 1000, 1001, 1002 and then whatever the sentence started as will change to what her brain is now thinking.
The problem is that once that thing is up to speed what comes out makes less sense than when it was just the mouth doing the work.
Chris @ 22:
YOU are crazy.
James @ 12:
Oh no, not that! What could be worse than shit stains like Rush Limpballs and Sean Insanity making this an issue. Anything but that!
At what point will Dems start doing what is right....WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT HOW CONSERVATIVES WILL REACT???
Has the GOP ever concerned themselves with how liberals will respond to anything??? No. They don't give a shit...and that's the attitude we need to adopt.
Bottom line: it's time to finally grow a pair.
That online campaign was started by Melissa McEwan from Shakesville. I think it's a fabulous idea! Planned Parenthood wins - and Palin has her anti-feminist nose tweaked in the process.
I'm all for it!
Great idea, Katie! caribou barbie gets hoisted with her own petard!!!
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Chris @ 22:
Only to the people who will always buy into that line. They have other psychological issues beyond liberalis reflexihatethem.
To people like me it says that liberals believe in choice, privacy and women's health (sorry for the bad pronoun. Not going for a good grammar grade here) and sometimes get a really good jab at some crazed, republican hypocrite.
:)
Liberals abort fetuses.
Conservatives kill anything that emerges from the womb.
Many here want Obama to win.
What, exactly, will that mean?
Lower heating fuel prices?
Extraction of U.S. troops from abroad?
What, exactly?
BTW, I'm not for McCain.
I believe as Nader does: there's one party.
OK, this getting way beyond surreal:

This total bonehead stands a good change of ascending to the U.S. Presidency. Should that happen, we are finished.
No wonder McCain wants her kept in a bubble.
VietVet8666 @ 34:
No doubt that we have to work to reform our entire political system, starting with campaign finance reform (or whatever you think is paramount). One way or the other we need to make room for 3rd, 4th, and 5th parties to get involved.
However, I can say with confidence that if we get McCain things will get far, far worse and not because he is a bitter, reactionary, ill man (though these things do not help matters), but because the GOP will use him to continue ruining this country the same way that they have been for years.
It's a rough road, to be sure.
Chris @ 22:
I agree. I hope John McCain wins. :]
An outstanding prank and for a good cause too. I'm in.

Wandering off the path here for just a minute. I have been watching Sen. Dodd being interviewed on cnn. He said today they were working out a core issue about the bailout and he thought everyone was going to agree to it. But out of nowhere comes some sort of press release from the repubs in the House that changed the core issue and this came as a result of something McCain had added. According to Dodd things got contentious for a while. Now Dodd feels they are almost back to step one. He said he's tired and you could tell he was angry. He feels like McCain pulled some political ploy and now the repubs are supporting him. He feels like the rug of all their previous work has been pulled out from under him. I don't blame him for being pissed.
One has to wonder if McCain did this on purpose to delay a final vote on the bill so he could stay in DC tomorrow and tomorrow night without looking like a total debate coward. At this point I would put nothing past him. He's like the thing that just keeps bugging you and won't go away.
BobbyG @ 35:
Oh my lord..
Jeremy Hisuko @ 37:
Having used the services of PP for many years, I can tell you that most women go there for regular gynecological services and contraceptives and education. I, and my friends who regularly went there, never had abortions. We were able to prevent unwanted pregnancies because of the services PP offers. People who just associate PP with abortions don't have a clue.
BTW, my donation just went through with thanks to Gov. Palin!
pissed off patricia @ 39:
thanks for the update. I just missed that interview. McCain is an obstructionist for sure. Puppet Of Wallstreet POW.
I'm not sure where I stand on Planned Parenthood. It has some very disturbing roots in both racism and the early Eugenics movement. --Which while they've distanced themselves publicly from now, I still have to wonder about. With control freaks like Bill Gates being so heavily involved in their efforts, I am really given pause. I'd like to know a lot more about such a powerful organization before throwing any money at them.
While I think it's great to see Sarah Palin create such a reaction, I wonder if Planned Parenthood is the right vehicle for opposition.
I just donated and e-mailed all my friends urging them to do the same! Great idea and a wonderful boost for Planned Parenthood.
Chris @ 22:
Conservatives kill babies by denying them adequate health care.
"Love the FETUS, to hell with the CHILD!"
What's up with the whole "Fetus Fetish" anyway?
Obama is on CNN
David @ 45:
More people on the planet equals more cannon fodder for their wars. Simple as that.
This is really cool. That so many people responded so quickly to this idea is brilliant. I sent some modest love. I'm proud to be one of many.
I donate every time I go there for a check-up, but I think I'll send them a little extra this year for Sarah's sake, bless her heart!
VietVet8666 @ 9:
Yeah, but the cost of bullets has also gone way up. One of my co-workers is a gun nut, so I hear about it, actually... We have three guns and two people living in my house, and that's not even counting the bows, but I still detest the NRA's positions on a lot of things. All the same, a bunch of control-freak gits sitting around swapping vigilante fantasies doesn't infringe on my freakin' rights, whereas the "every sperm is sacred" crowd thinks of me as nothing more than a uterus on legs.
Classic!
Very clever.
Lemonade from lemons!
Love it!
Brilliant.
Liberals are getting their groove back...yeah.
Whoa now, hold on a moment! @ 43:
WNHOAM,
I totally respect your right to pose these questions. I'll just offer that for myself, I figure this nation as a whole has roots in racism, so I trust those who've owned it and distanced themselves more than anyone who claims to be pure.
My bias: close family relative used to be a family planning doc for PP, mostly doing checkups, Pill, & IUD... and yes, mostly for indigent and married women who had no other regular medical care at all.
There also out there doing a heck of a lot more to prevent the spread of AIDS among our young people than Bushie. So again, not to force others to share my opinion, but I want to sing their praises.
Nel @ 5:
That's worth considering of course - but it is a break from PP's standing policy if they don't send the thank you notes. Why should they break with their own policy?
The only merit that idea has for me is that it would save the money. I LIKE the idea of sending the thank yous.

Just a bit of history for @43: After her death, the founder of Planned Parenthood was eulogized by no less than the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. I wouldn't be so quick to buy into the "racism" b.s. that the anti-choice camp reflexively trots out. They may be reality-challenged, but they've become good at adapting to the zeitgeist (in this case, the general abhorrence of racism) . And aren't ashamed of lying to do it.
MaudeLebowski @ 47:
Perhaps -- but whiney white christian males are also terrified of being a white AND religious minority.
Most industrialized nations are permitting abortions -- the Muslim countries mostly do not.
What was the name of the douche - the guy with the botched ass-surgery? -- Glen Beck I think -- famously said "Ladies, make more babies!"
*
Comrade Kilgore Trout @ 24:
THANK YOU for saying this. It's written ALL over this chick. If there's anything a re-thuglic goes for - it's "trashy."

Here's a picture that will make Sara Baracuda and McCranky, well, cranky...

(I'm sending a donation, as well!)
Is the surge working?
Flyhaf @ 11:
I agree. Besides, Obama is infuriatingly broad-minded about his liberal issues: hunters in rural areas have one need, urban dwellers in crime-ridden neighborhoods have another. He'd probably laugh the whole thing off.
I know that (some, not all) Planned Parenthood clinics perform abortions, but what everyone seems to forget is that they offer sliding scale (and that means free for the poorest) reproductive health care. When I didn't have health insurance, I got my yearly exams, including pap smears, there at a price I could afford, and when I had "lady problems" they helped me out then too. They also provide access to birth control methods, and do a lot of education. Of course, Palin objects to birth control and education, but most people don't.
I saw some similar reminders up above, just wanted to chime in with my own experience.
Chris @ 22:
I was uninsured for five years, and I have a medical condition that causes extreme fatigue and low red blood count. The best treatment is a daily low-dose hormone pill. Which just happens to be called 'birth control'.
During those five years, my only medical treatment came from Planned Parenthood, who ensured I had yearly PAP smears, mammograms, blood pressure screening, and the medication I needed to continue working and paying taxes.
As a Christian, all I can say is thank God for Planned Parenthood.
You racist clowns would support the eugenics project known as Planned Parenthood.
