Veterans For Obama
By Cernig Friday Sep 26, 2008 7:30amThe Obama campaign has released a whole bunch of videos by "Next Generation" veterans - those who served and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Here's the first:
And here's one from partial-amputee Jon Kuniholm, who talks about his experiences, addresses the "phony troops" meme and directly asks John McCain how long he'll support a "mission" that amounts to puting up figurative "accomplished" banners at regular intervals.
There's also one from veterans and military family members in Virginia and another from Bobby Wise, who served in Iraq and is veterans field director for the Obama campaign. All good, powerful stuff and these veterans and military family members really do make the best spokespeople for why Barack Obama is stronger and smarter on national security and veterans issues.

I am a Vietnam era veteran, and I know these people are telling the truth.
Enough said on that? Now...
The Independent Voters On FOX Said Obama Won - That’s It, He Won.
by This Old Hippie Because Sometimes They Simply Can’t Hide The Truth.
So Sayeth FOX - So Believeth the Majority of American Voters
You know... the ones that never come to our blogs, never read us, nor watch us, nor listen to us. And FOX could not hide, or misconstrue, their independent voters’ reactions to this first debate. It doesn’t matter what any of the ‘experts,’ or talking-heads, liberal or conservative, say about it - FOX was forced to openly admit that - - -
“Obama won the debate.” Therefore the FOX-Sheeple believe it, and they are, currently, sadly, insanely, unfathomably, and in unreal reality... the majority of the voters in this nation.
So - There may be some hope yet?
“It really is true what they say...
Those who do not study the past, get an exciting opportunity to repeat it.”
You have got to watch this, because Jon & Staff really did great on this one. Enjoy...
Fabulous. I'm with them.
Oh, and by the way, Iraqi Vets, did you ever run into al-Zarqawi in Iraq? No? How about the Iraqi citizens? What did they have to say about him?
Fine. I'm also a veteran but IMHO we need to stop using the military to solve every foreign relations problem. We need to talk to the leaders of other countries and then talk some more and then keep on talking and then find another way to keep talking. War is not a solution to very many problems. We need to find other ways to live with other countries.
Remind me again, was al-Zarqawi in Iraq before we invaded and occupied? Remind me again, how many car bpmbs were going of in Baghdad and across Iraq before we invaded and occupied? And finally, remind me again what "victory" in Iraq will look like and who will "win" what?
McCain is an idiot. It is bad enough that our forces are still stuck in the middle of the desert. Now he threatens Iran, whose government has close ties with the government of Iraq. Brilliant tactic, not.
i think this is awesome.
in fact, i think every obama supporter with access to a video camera, whether veteran or not, should make a video simply explaining why they are voting for O
imagine the impact of literally millions of videos like this suddenly appearing on the net in a concentrated effort
I was in SHOCK last night at how McCain ouright LIED about his support of the troops and that he iknew how to care for them. I was equally shocked that Obama didn't blow him out of the water on McCains sorry RECORD of NOT supprting the troops-especially his fellow POW and MIA.If you NEVER read another thing about the socalled hero,PLEASE go to the Nation website and read the FULL article by Schanberg. Here's an excerpt:--------------"McCain and the POW Cover-up"
The "war hero" candidate buried information about POWs left behind in Vietnam
Research support provided by the Investigative Fund of The Nation Institute. October 6, 2008 issue of The Nation.
By Sydney H. Schanberg
September 18, 2008
John McCain, who has risen to political prominence on his image as a Vietnam POW war hero, has, inexplicably, worked very hard to hide from the public stunning information about American prisoners in Vietnam who, unlike him, didn't return home. Throughout his Senate career, McCain has quietly sponsored and pushed into federal law a set of prohibitions that keep the most revealing information about these men buried as classified documents. Thus the war hero who people would logically imagine as a determined crusader for the interests of POWs and their families became instead the strange champion of hiding the evidence and closing the books.
Almost as striking is the manner in which the mainstream press has shied from reporting the POW story and McCain's role in it, even as the Republican Party has made McCain's military service the focus of his presidential campaign. Reporters who had covered the Vietnam War turned their heads and walked in other directions. McCain doesn't talk about the missing men, and the press never asks him about them.
The sum of the secrets McCain has sought to hide is not small. There exists a telling mass of official documents, radio intercepts, witness depositions, satellite photos of rescue symbols that pilots were trained to use, electronic messages from the ground containing the individual code numbers given to airmen, a rescue mission by a special forces unit that was aborted twice by Washington—and even sworn testimony by two Defense secretaries that "men were left behind." This imposing body of evidence suggests that a large number—the documents indicate probably hundreds—of the US prisoners held by Vietnam were not returned when the peace treaty was signed in January 1973 and Hanoi released 591 men, among them Navy combat pilot John S. McCain.
While all of the ads either posted or linked to were good, I want to see Vote Vets come out with strong ads against McCain and his hypocritical professed love of vets. Last night McCain kept saying he "loved" vets, oh yeah? If he loves vets so much why has he voted AGAINST almost all major bills that would help them?
And also for Bobby Wise. Did you see Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq? Just wondering.
Yours truly,
Bianca, aka The Woman in the Leopard Print Slip
im a korean war vet and as for the republicans ive never voted for a republican in my life, they have never ,never did anything worthwhile for a working man, and they never will, but i dont agree with obamas stand on afganistan , this was bushes war , same as iraq was, the truth is people seem to forget thier were no alkida in iraq when bush invaded it after we had allready put our troops into iraq, afganistans the american peoples dirty step child , we have our men and women being killed there and nobody cares, yet they scream bloody murder over iraqs war dead and wounded, everyone seems to be allright with obamas willingness to spend more american lives and money in afganistan doing bushes work for him, you bitch about the patriot act ,fisa , and the civil and constiutonal rights these thugs stoled from you with obamas help by voteing for these bills, do you believe obamas going to see these rights restored while hes furthuring bushes agression in afganistan? where do you think the moneys going to come from to fight in afganistan ? we will still be borowing money from china or any country still willing to lend it to us, and just like iraq the war in afganistan will get bigger as more mid easterns get tired of our 8oo pound gorrila swinging its pecker around there killing men women and children there, they will flock to afganistan like flys on a dog turd, is that what you want ? im looking for a president who wants peace if obama keeps his promiss about afganistan and he wins the whitehouse next year we the democrats will be the party of warmongers and the next war criminals!
I'm so hoping Iraq veterans and current members of the military will come out strong for Obama. They are the ones who have truly sacrificed, and who's voices will go along way toward getting Obama elected.
paul newmans dead!
Moral Compass Says:
Remind me again, was al-Zarqawi in Iraq before we invaded and occupied?
I say:
No, and neither was BinLaden, or Khalid Sheik Mohammed. ...just a population of people who resist the illegal American occupation, who are now (convieniently) labeled as terrorists.
Moral Compass Says:
Remind me again, how many car bpmbs were going of in Baghdad and across Iraq before we invaded and occupied?
I say:
None?
Moral Compass Says:
And finally, remind me again what “victory” in Iraq will look like and who will “win” what?
I say:
What Victory will look like? ...un-interrupted oil filling Exxon Mobil tankers? ...pipelines that dont get blown up every week?

You are the first I have seen that talked of Sydney H. Schanberg's reports on the POW situation from Viet Nam....The article and facts within continue to haunt me.
Here is the link...with all kinds of documentation going with it..
From The Nation...published online Sept. 17, 08 "McCain and the POW Cover-up"
Sadly more than John McCain were a part...John Kerry for one.

War vets grade debate - VoteVets.org on Rachel Maddow Show
Sept. 27: With such different opinions on the Iraq war, one candidate did not receive a good grade from veterans -- and the answer might surprise. Rachel Maddow is joined by Iraq war vet John Soltz.
vietnam prisoners were not the only prisoner of war troops left behind by these repigs , ike was informed after our prisoner of war exchange and truce that american soldiers and marines were still in the hands of chinese and the north koreans , hundreads of them were held back from repatriaton, and ike ignored that information because he didnt want to upset the truce applecart, usa usa usa they allways throw you under the bus when they can no longer use you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as a matter of fact many of our korean war american prisoners were transfered to china and even russia tortured dureing interrogation and killed there , and they were never recovered,
I cried when he turned to walk away and revealed his missing limb(s) leg too, i think. I knew it was coming and it still choked me up.
That second commercial alone makes me want to beat the shit out of all the twentysomething, pink-jowled, sausage-chewing winos in the Young Republicans who promote expansionist foreign policy and yet can't find it within themselves to enlist in the military.
Great work on both of these videos---Mc Lame doesn't love the troops---he wants to exploit them for his selfish gain. That's what self centered, sociopathic Neocons do.
Both very effective ads in my view.
That version of Ray Charles' "America the Beautiful" always makes me weepy.
Great ads!!! If Republiclans had any shame they would crawl away in disgrace.
I respect their opinion to vote for whom they choose as I am a servicemember myself. But do not be too encouraged by their decision because all of the servicemembers and veterans that I know are McCain supports. McCain will have us leave Iraq with honor, Obama will not. We will be out of there soon enough even if McCann is elected. Obama will lead us into an unnecessary conflict with Pakistan.
these ads are all well and good , these guys have paid the price for you and me and sacrificed thier limbs in a made up war, yet they spout the party line , on to the real war in afganistan, lets hear from the guys whos lives havent changed yet , saying the real war is in afganistans just throwing more americans meat to the lions, the war machine run by the corporations who build the tanks the f22 raptors the fancy new machine guns, a continuation of the war in afganistan only means more of the repitition of rotateing troops into afganistan year after year of more stop losses more backdoor drafts , more legs arms flesh torn off of american troopers , ask an active iraq combat trooper if hes willing to be sent to another bush fuckup!
NEWS FLASH:
John McGrampa graduated at the bottom one-fifth of his US Naval Academy class.
He then went on to destroy FIVE US Navy aircraft. He then spent five years as a POW.
My late father was a decorated, repeat DECORATED (Navy Cross, DFC, etc), US Navy
Officer/fighter pilot who served in THREE WARS: WW2, Korea & Vietnam. After all those missions, landing on the deck of a aircraft carrier, he never once damaged a plane.
He said John McGrampa was NOT presidential material, and was a AWFUL pilot.
Suck it up chickenhawks.
swampfox @ 17:
The thing about being in the military is, as long as you are in, you are effectively already "dead." Only when you get your separation papers do you get revived. Until then, you are under orders. If the brass chooses to ignore you, tough shit. You're dead anyway.
Yeah, I'm a vet, 64-68--in fact the 40th anniversary of my personal revival was just about 1 month ago...Yeah, I'll drink to that...
Add me, a Viet Nam vet, to Obama's list of supporters.
This note is for my fellow veterans, from a disabled Vietnam Veteran class of 65-69' please accept my humble and grateful Thank You for your service to America. I hope this country takes better care of you than it did my generation. Truth be known we now have more deaths by suicide within the Vietnam Veteran population than we lost in combat. I really hope you do not have to match that to obtain help.
I am also grateful to the doctors and nurses of the VA hospital, they try really hard to do the best they can with the resources available.
It is the admin side that is the stonewall in front of you and I do not have any answers for you to get through it? I use to do crises intervention helping vets get to the hospital before they killed themselves. We met resistance all the time. I feel I failed you because I had to quit in order to maintain what little sanity I have left. I wish I could have taken down the wall for you but now it is yours Good Luck and take security in numbers.
Vote for Change! Please?
Our troops today are seeing more war (2, 3, 4 tours!) then any of us in Nam, Korea, even WWII ever saw. I cannot imagine the kind of mind twists this is doing to them. Some of them will not experience the PTSD that, WILL, follow for years, even decades.
We need to prepare for that now. Republicans will not do this. For them it is profits now the hell with the future. We must end the current Republican ideology to save our future vets.
I'm glad to see the old war horses here agreeing with us. Too many of them still have their heads stuck in the US right or wrong mentality (see McCain).
I'm am a disabled Viet Nam vet. I learned from that war. Too many have not. I do not have an answer on how to reach them. They just need to die I guess, so that we are liberated from their brand of thinking.
God bless to our new vets who really are seeing more war then any generation of US soldiers.
Let's beat the Republican in November for them. They deserve it.
Dave
Viet Nam Vet
John McCain does not represent the interests of the Vets ,or of this country. John McCain is representing the interests of John McCain. PERIOD.
P.S.: The legislation that throws roadblocks in front of POW families includes the missing of ANY war or conflict. PLEASE read the Nation article I alluded to upthread. You WON'T be disappointed, but most likely you'll be decidedly disillusioned upon the completion of this article's the painstaking deconstruction of the myth of McCain as "hero " to the troops .
{Deleted,Chatterer, Flame baiting. And utter BS.SiteMonitor}
Just to be clear - while we support Obama, Jon's video was in no way linked to the Obama campaign.
Wow. I know he's not an actor, but geez, could Jon Kuniholm sound any more wooden?
I've heard more convincing emotional discourse emerging from hands holding sock-puppets.
I'm against Vets being used for McCain and Obama's campaigns because in the end their voices will be forgotten.
Know a few vets who suffer from PTSD from Nam and they still need lots of help from VA. McCain, now up in years has also record of cancer. And PTSD? We are not allowed to see his medical records in any detail and they are very extensive.
Here is what physicians have to say about a guy who is known for his outbursts, rage, and anger:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvesa49zSIM
see this video and ask why we can not know in full what we might have serving as our president!
Don't you white racist pig bastards even THINK about voting against Obama! DON'T U EVEN THINK IT! If Obama loses I swear I will leave this god forsaken capitalist racist pig country, I swear to God, and I will NEVER come back!
Obama 08!
I'm glad your leaving, you need to leave now, I'm sorry to say reverse raceism is rampant, and your inflamatory accusations prove it. You must have self imposed chains on your brain.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt8PM1S7F9M
If he runs the U.S. like he did chicago, WE ARE ALL IN TROUBLE.
First - Yobamanation 08' - People are not racist if they don't vote Obama. Some will, sure, but your generalization is ridiculous. At least make some valid points to your stance. This only hurts Obama.
Second - How can the Defense Secretary say that we will lose the faith of our allies if we leave Iraq? I would think it would be quite the opposite. Our 'allies' were never for going into Iraq. Does the Secretary forget the world-wide record-sized protests to the war?
{ Deleted, Chatterer And Flame Baiting. You do know McCain voted against upgrading the Veterans Benefits. Don't you? SiteMonitor}
