There's a lot of great games and game music out there, but this one is definitely a landmark in the art form. Yasunori Mitsuda says that, when composing the music for Chrono Trigger, he set out to "create music that wouldn't fit into any established genre...music of an imaginary world." Although Matsuda fell ill with stomach ulcers when the project was nearing a close, fellow Square composer, Nobuo Uematsu helped complete the works. However, it is Matsuda who was responsible for this beauty of a piece, which is probably one of the most recognizable from the game. These three musicians do a great cover too, which is pretty impressive to have been able to do with three instruments when the original has such a lush and complex arrangement.
