I hesitate to run this video today, because it's just so sad our nation's voters re-elected George W. Bush.

But if you have the fortitude to watch, it's notable that in this clip from the last debate between John Kerry and George Bush in October of 2004, Bush actually says he's for background checks.

But the main thrust of his crime initiatives is to "punish those who use guns in committing a crime."

John Kerry points out that, um, terrorists will come to the United States to buy weapons at gun shows, and use those weapons against Americans. We all wish he had been wrong about that.

Given that we've lost count of how many mass shootings there have been since that debate, nearly all with high caliber weapons in which the shooter was ultimately killed at the scene, Bush's weak tea response to letting go of the assault weapons ban is just tragic. He was the President of the United States. The mind reels.
