While discussing the controversy surrounding Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Sen. Barack Obama's former pastor, on the April 30 edition of his nationally syndicated Fox News radio show, host John Gibson aired an audio clip of MSNBC commentator Rachel Maddow in which she asked, "What else has to happen in the news to push Jeremiah Wright out of the headlines?" Following her comments, Gibson aired an unidentified audio clip of a man saying, " Ooh, lesbians. Yummy." Later in the segment, Gibson's producer, known on-air as "Angry Rich" said, "That Maddow's become bathtub boy's pit bull, hasn't she?" -- an apparent reference to MSNBC's Countdown host, Keith Olbermann. Gibson replied, "Ooohhh. ... Well, I don't know, you know? She may have one of those -- I shouldn't say anything more, should I?" "Angry Rich" said, "No," and Gibson said, apparently referring to his associate producer, "Christine's shaking her head back and forth," and went on to air an audio clip in which an unidentified woman said, "I would like to thank my wife." Gibson later said, "Did I tell you about the people ... on the island of Lesbos?" Read on...

Jon Stewart's comments on the Statue of Liberty after 9/11 strike home so much for me. 9/11 was the capstone of an incredibly apocalyptic year in high school/life in general, and the only thing that got me through it was my desire to make it to New York City (which I finally have last August), which was symbolized by the Lady herself. Her defiant, enlightenment-inspired expression has made her my most cherished icon. Seeing her intact and still holding her torch aloft against the smoke and fire helped it sink in that it was going to be okay.
And, now comes along this f*** who says all that agony and why she means so much to me is "phony" because I didn't throw myself at Bush's feet and stay there. You know, I try not to gloat when people lose their job or something like that, but I make an exception for "Mr." Gibson.
Opinions and ideas don't count. Logic does not matter and fairness is a quaint notion not worthy of remembering. What is important when it comes to political analysis is the sexual orientation of the commentator.
John "make more white babies" Gibson is a joke. It's likely both of his listeners are too far gone to help - so why give him the attention he craves? By the looks of it, his face is about to slide off his skull entirely at which point he will sneak into a well deserved hiding.

I don't get any of their coded talk either. Bat boy, bath boy, bath tub boy, which is it ? And if this is supposed to be about Olbermann, what's the "bath" part about. Gibson is also the guy who said that the U.S. should cut off all trade to Canada because they didn't go into Iraq with Bush. Forgetting the fact that Canada was among the first armies to invade Afghanistan to take on the Taliban (they're STILL there too) and that on 9/11 every city and town in Canada allowed all the U.S. planes to land anywhere they could and locals in places like Nova Scotia and Newfoundland took in stranded U.S. strangers and fed and housed them until the air ban was lifted. I watched Billo try and take on Hillary the other night and it was the same "pure knee jerk emotion" stuff, it's exactly what Colbert is parodying with his "I don't have time for facts, I just go with my gut" thing (Truthiness). Slamming Gibson is easy because he is not really a "news" anything. His show is constructed to be controversial and so (by extension) watchable. The only question I have is with the sponsors that pay money to have their commercials placed next to the nonsense put out by Gibson.
The more important question is the fact that Gibson is presented under the Fox News moniker. Is this news? Is he doing commentary or just spewing stuff so he can get ratings?
The danger is not FOX (because they are clearly targeted to the 20% that still support Bush), but other media outlets that assume that by emulating FOX they too will get high ratings and lots of advertising money. An so we see CNN and MSNBC head down the "Foxification" road to excretable journalism.
Gibson is not to be blamed because in Hell (i.e. FOX news) you do what you can to survive.

I have been watching some of the neocon mouth tools lately, and they are getting so desperate that they are starting to say what is really on their minds. I believe that this is a good thing. People who aren't completely in their court can see what is really going on .
On the other hand, my mother, who usually votes Democrat, but listens to Fox News, is afraid of both Hillary and Obama, and may vote for Mc Cain. Her basic problem, although she won't admit it, is that she is racist. She lives and works in an urban neighborhood, but is from the Deep South. In her job, she deals with the public and with co-workers who are black, and it reinforces her attitudes toward black people. (conversely, I work with the public as well, in a VERY white neighborhood, and I can't stand a lot of white people. I am white,btw.)
I think that this race is good for a lot of reasons. I think it is good that people put their prejudices out there, because nothing hidden can be healed. I also think that we are about to enter a very "interesting" time in our national history. There is the potential with this election, that the sixties will look like a party in the park, much like Nixon looks like a good president compared to what we've had recently. With so much animosity on the surface, there is sure to be a match to light the powder keg. Gibby, Limbaugh, Hannity and their associates, are only going to keep stuffing powder in the keg. (Limbaugh is, at least, open in his admission that that is what he wants.)

I don't understand why he thinks Maddow is a lesbian. Is she and, if she is (which I personally don't care either way), why is that pertinent to the present discussion? What the hell does it matter? Does that automatically disqualify her from a rational discussion outside of her sexuality? I didn't realize sexual preference was correlated in any way to intelligence and/or analytical ability. I was a teenager/young college student in the early to mid-'80s when women's issues really became in-your-face and personal. That sort-of made sense to me (except for the revisionist history part),but I have to admit some women I knew took it to a new limit. But, if it ain't happenin' in my bedroom, what is it to me? Why should I care? I'm straight - do you care? Why should you - it's none of your business?! Just born that way, I guess. This is something I will never understand about people...
