Obama to go on FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace
By John Amato Thursday Apr 24, 2008 11:00am
Don't you love that "24" type music? And Chris Wallace wastes no time smearing him even before he shows up.
For accepting the interview, Fox's Chris Wallace promptly implies Obama is lazy:
Wallace said if Obama had won Pennsylvania, he may not have accepted the invitation.
"If he had won he'd probably on a Caribbean island this weekend."
The Obama Watch has officially ended and I hope he has a really, really fun time. I'm sure it'll be fair and balanced just like their treatment has been of him all along.

Now how is that going to make Bill O'Reilly feel?
You'll note that FOX News is getting trounced in the ratings battle on the primary coverage by MSNBC and CNN. I wonder why? I'm sure they will thank Obama for the help. (See chart below the fold)

too bad he decided to go on. It would have been nice to have the guy go all the way to the white house and never have gone on fox. they don't deserve a voice.
This is a bad move for him. It will be a hit job. They'll pull out some crap he did in the 4th grade or something. Or ask him to disprove something that is impossible to disprove, etc.
This will be fun. Obama will easily handle the weak punk Wallace. When one stands up to bullies, they cower and then run home to their mother.
I wonder if he'll be asked any questions other than about flag pins
and rev. Wright and if so if he'll ask CW why he's not wearing a pin or
why no one ever seems to get around to bringing up Hagee?
I can only think and trust that he knows what he's doing, and that he's going in order to make the Fox News Crew look like complete ignorant jackasses.
F*&k fox news, fuck fox news' "reporters" and a big captital F*&K YOU to anyone that watches fox news!
And furthermore....F*&K!
JA: I try to keep profanity down. It's just me. It does get through sometimes lHm
bitter slippy toad @ 5:
I betcha that's his plan.
The comments from posts 1 and 2 are indicative of how right wing propaganda sites like FOX so easily intimidate passive progressives. We must learn to stand up to these clowns.
This should be a good test of my belief in Obama. He's walking into a trap and Wallace will try to sandbag him. Fox is just hoping for a "gotcha" moment they can replay endlessly. Let's see if intelligence and class can beat propaganda.
Left&Left @ 3:
Thats the truth. It's easier to hide, to ignore, to dismiss, just ask Pres. Bush.
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 7:
While it might be his plan, he better pull it off. If he pulls it off, he'll be an even bigger hero. If he falls flat, he's fu-ked!!
wall-eyed's photo is the first thing you see when you look up in the dictionary the definition for sphincter-boy.
OMG! I don't know if this will spell doom for his candidacy but it won't help.
I can see it now. "Tell us about your elitist, Muslim upbringing." "Where is your lapel pin?" "How much advice have you received from Reverend Wright?" "How much do you plan raising taxes on the poor and middle class?" "Why do you hate America?"
And on and on…
Let's hope Chris Wallace gets exactly what he deserves from Obama....something along the lines of the satisfying slapping sound I heard on Chris Matthews
Chris Matthews: “At any time in this campaign, did you have a chuckle … something … that you just went to bed laughing about.”
Obama: “Oh, I think that happens once a day, but then I stopped watching cable news.”
Matthews: “Oh.”
nohohusseinbear @ 9:
I have no doubt that Obama will kick Wallaces hindquaters. BUT, slimy as the fox propagandists are...I just KNOW they're gonna twist his words, take as much out of context as they can and fuckin run with it!
You know they are going to be drooling for a gotcha moment that McCain can use in a commercial or even one Hillary can use. I'm hoping he does some classy ass kicking if he needs to.
I knew that sooner or later, Obama would do something that I despise and sure enough, he has.
I trust Barack Obama!
This should be refreshing for Fox viewers.
Obama is a good, prepared orator, but in the past, I've not been impressed with his responses when somebody shoots him from the hip. He kind of fumblies, like Edwards did during his debate with Cheeeeeeeney during the last stolen election.
I would not give Fixed Noise any sign of credibility by appearing on any show.
And Wallace, the corporate shill? No way.
I can't wait. I need to hear more about flag pins and madrassas! Obama should rip Fox a new one. Loyal Fox listeners aren't going to be swayed to vote for him anyway.
He going to ask Wallace why Snipes was convicted to the slammer to "set an example"? Despite the fact most tax cases are settle out of court and without prison sentences?
Joe Klein's conscience @ 11:
I doubt Obama will do anything other than humiliate Wallace, kinda like an Englishmen can be condescending, and you walk away smiling, not realizing you've just been insulted, or outsmarted until later...you've all seen the family guy episode.
Obama would get a lot more respect and probably votes if he told Fox to shove their stupid questions you know where.
leftminded @ 13:
You're wrong. That bullshit line of questions will only work with the 28%ers(and Hillary supporters). Most other Americans have larger and more pertinent questions that they want Wallace to ask Obama.
All in all...I'm not terribly worried...Obama will do fine.
This is interesting. There is no visible advantage for Obama to go on this show and lots of downside, yet he accepts. Given FOX's tanking in the ratings, this will provide them a boost, so if Obama is smarter than a fifth grader he must have cut a deal with them to play nice if they wanted to have him on . I know BHO talks about working together to create a better America but he's not THAT naive to believe these guys play fair....... is he?
He should show up with about a million little flag pins pined all over his suit.
And Obama wants to be the president of this place, why????
Personally, I'd take my money and get on the first flight out. Then I'd sit back and laugh as this country collapses under the weight of its own stupidity.
I don't think the David Axelrod would tell him to go on the show unless he thought Obama could handle it. Axelrod has handled the campaign very well so far.
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 25:
You're right. He is on somewhat of a hot streak right now.
No worries.
pissed off patricia @ 27:
He should wear a suit of the American flag altogether.
The Truth Hurts @ 28:
HEY! You stole my plan.
iraqhusseinconcilable @ 26:
He's a statesman, IMHO...which is why I support him.
This is a mistake, and no Democrat should go on anything that FauxNews produces. Obama must be slipping to even accept an invitation to these liars and mis-information propagandist!
Dr. Acula @ 31:
Funny..but counterproductive maybe...they'd say he didn't take ol' glory seriously.
Maybe CW will ask Obama about pocketing thousands of dollars in contributions from Tony Rezko while Obama's constituents went without heat or water? Or maybe CW cam ask Obama about the couple of hundred thousand dollars he's taken from OFFICERS and bundled(by lobbyist's) contributions from employees of Oil Co.s?
[Deleted. If you KNOW it's off topic, then why put it up here? Now I have a bunch of off topic outrage on this thread that will eat into my morning. If you ever do this again, you will be banned immediately-Sitemonitor]
It's no wonder Mike Wallace suffered from depression! Look who his son is!!!
I hope Obama karate chops that little puke.
Chris Wallace is a disgrace for a son of Mike Wallace.
pissed off patricia @ 27:
that would be hysterical...
I'd love it if he would just Jon Stewart his ass...tell him all of MSM 'hurts america' and that nobody cares about their B.S. stories...make wallace ask real questions...
Dr. Acula @ 31:
And hold his hand over his heart throughout the entire interview
I wouldnt go overboard with the racial overtones of 'Fox’s Chris Wallace promptly implies Obama is lazy'. What the ACTUAL implication is is that he's desperate, which is not true either.
Besides, Obama KNEW that he wasnt going to win PA, so he did the best he could and grabbed as many delegates as he could. Clinton isnt going to suddenly run away with this primary just because of this.
BTW, Pelosi needs to shut up about who the running mate should be until the primaries are over. The Democrats need to look as positive as possible and any negative words from other Dems are going to be queued in on. Come on, Nancy, you work in politics, you KNOW this is true....
Personally, I don't see the "smear" in Wallace's island remark. Seems to me he's saying that if Obama had won Penn. then he'd be off taking a nice (well-deserved) VACATION.
Hell, I could go for a trip to St. Lucia right about now...
This is gonna make the ABC debate look like a tea party.
Call me crazy, I don't think he should go on Faux News.
He has to go on to appear "mainstream". Otherwise refusing to appear on Fox will just become another weapon of mass bullsh*t used by the Cons against him.
Big mistake Obama. This is a cave in. Fox News is pure and simple a propaganda arm of the
Neo Con-controlled Republican party.
Please take note Obama supporters. He has already shown that he will cave into the coal industry. He is showing that he will cave into the Republicans. Mark my words. An Obama presidency will break the heart of progressive America.
What happened??? Did Obama hire Mark Penn or something? This will do him no good. Bad move...
Unless he comes out swinging, I think it's a mistake too. We'll see. But I want to see an angry threatening black man make Wallace hide behind his chair, then get up and walk out.
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 6:
I watch the fox. I love to hear the shit from the MFs. It should be watched (as a last resort for you channel surfers) and answered. The lies in fact and the lies of omission. If we really wanted to thump them we should write/e-mail the sponsors of the network and give them a piece of our minds. Someone please post a list of sponsors and email addresses. Make it convinent for the likes of me to respond. Post it over and over and over and over again. Many of us don't watch the crooksandliars every day and/or read everything.
I'm glad he's going on Fox. Obama's classy and smart and won't fall into their trap. I think he'll will make them all pee themselves, and maybe, just maybe make their viewers think for a change.
Off topic but good news: Chevy's Volt, a lithium ion hybrid that can go 40 miles using only electricity, and 640 miles on a tank, is finally up and running today.
Why go on Fox News and give them a legitimacy they don't deserve? There are other media outlets that aren't blatantly out to get Democrats. Just ignore Fox, O'Reilly, etc. and let them shrivel into irrelevance. They're terrified of an Obama presidency.
Fox isn't Cheney's favorite network for nothing.

dennis @ 30:
I really don't know where you stand Mr. Progressive, but it's clear from your 100% negativity you hate Obama. I'm sure you're "bitter" because of the realization that Hillary's "suicide bomber" campaign is almost over, but don't pee on us. I'm certain McWar needs another warmongering minion in his camp.
Fox did not get trounced in the ratings battle on the primary coverage by MSNBC and CNN. That graphic was for the 25-54 age demographic. The link just below the graph shows the ratings for all ages and puts Fox just barely behind CNN in second place for prime time, and far ahead of MSNBC.
Not all that bad considering it was Democratic primary that night.
Prime: FNC: 2357 | CNN: 2558 | MSNBC: 1615 | HLN: 532
L.A. Confidential @ 44:
I agree. I'm looking forward to watching how Obama does in their snakepit.
Don't forget they (fox) has editorial rights to edit anything they want. This could be a bad idea.
Obama is too smart for FOX News and its viewers and the real risk is whether those dumb imbeciles will understand his answers. Thats the risk, not that Wallace will have a successful ambush.
Anyone running for President lives every day with the thought of how to survive a right wing ambush, Obama is real, genuine, and has every reason to be completely confident.
It's win-win, if he somehow gets wounded in the ambush, only the McInsane voters will be affected, no lost votes. If he wins, he gains converts. He either loses nothing or gains votes
Even if there is a trap, and even if Obama gets suckered, do you suppose any FUX news watcher was going to vote for him anyway?
That doesn't imply that he is lazy, it implies that he would have had the whole thing wrapped up and would be able to relax.
crazylikeafox @ 45:
No way Obama is going to be able to meet the expectations of Progressives. First we have to emerge from the muck and get our feet on dry footing.
A good test . . preparation for the general. HRC is right in this, if he can't handle Faux and Chrissy, then he's in trouble.
dropkick @ 48:
You do make a good point...and obviously I meant "fuck you" to the mouth-breathers that buy into it, not folks like yourself.
But if I watched fox news daily...I'd be goin through ALOT of teevees...and I can't afford that.
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
The continued focus on Rev.Wright is everything thats wrong with media, if you dont expose the media to sunlight the wound will fester and get worse. Obama is smart to tackle the swiftboaters head on. Its the only way to play this game
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
Obama must really be desparate to reach the angry anti-Hillary white male voting block
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 61:
Yes your right, and I do. Thu one out the other day.
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
goat hussein sage @ 57:
I was going to make the same comment. I would also agree with earlier posts that Obama is probably smart enough not to get suckered by CW.
The good thing is there may be a lot of Fox viewers who have never even seen the real Obama yet. Maybe they might just be surprised.
odanny @ 63:
Absolutely. We progressives need to "change" our strategy and get in these clowns face. Gore and Kerry took the imaginary "high road" and looked like pussies.
Doug B. @ 65:
He's not desperate for anything he's playing the game. You don't tell Fox to buzz off and expect to be in the running for President.
This, is the hand we've been dealt. There's little that remains thats progressive about this country. Except perhaps we have more stuff-toys then most other countries. If this country was truly progressive we wouldn't have allowed ourselves to be dragged back into the dark ages in 7 short years.
The fix is in. 6 or 7 months ago it was pretty much a given that it would be Hillary and Rudy. Well Rudy is gone and somehow a miracle occured and McCain came up from the bottom with no money to be the nominee. That will be one of the mysteries of the ages. Obama came out of nowhere and started kicking Hillary's ass.
There is no doubt that Obama is winning by ANY count you can make up.
But what is going on now is a joke. Obama was just shown giving a speech about the economy and gas prices with great detail about how to handle it and what he would do. (remember, they always say he never gives actual plans). They cut away to talk about it and some douche pundit says that McCain actually is doing better in this area and has more concrete plans. Then it's back to Rev Wright. OMG Obama is a politician therefore a liar!!! Which begs the question "What are Clinton and McCain?" but of course nobody asked it. This pounding of Obama 24/7 is making me want to run down the street screaming and pulling out my hair. Is Obama perfect? No he is not. They want to run against Hillary so bad they can taste it. I don't think Obama should have caved on this issue. Remember when Bill Clinton went on and beat the shit out of Wallace? All we heard was how he went crazy. I guarantee to there will be a soundbite from this interview that has a negative spin played 24/7.
And what the hell is all this I keep hearing about it is Obama that should drop out for the good of the party? WTF!! Since when do we ask the winner to drop out? If the situation had been reversed and Hillary won 12 states in a row I think he would have. He has more integrity but to ask him as the winner to step down would truly destroy this country.
A plea to the Superdelegates. Choose now. End this madness. Let us have a nominee that can start the process of kicking McCains ass. This 3 against 1 (republicans, hillary and the msm) against Obama is killing us.
dennis @ 53:
So...do you work for Murdoch or what? I could give a flyin FUCK about ratings.
DEMOCRATS ARE SQUANDERING THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME.....STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/gerard_baker/article...
odanny @ 63:
I would love to agree but it seems that it works. The Europeans are right, more than half of americans are blissfully ignorant and want to remain so. Play Howard Dean's so-called rant over and over and over (he's crazy !). Play Ross Perot's "you people" over and over and over (he's a racist !) Play the statement "I invented the internet" over and over and over. I know this works, I talked to my sister of all people ( I have talked to her about this many times) and she thinks Howard Dean must be loose.
Until Americans stop swallowing the propaganda (and see it as such) and start thinking (dah, that means reading and such) we will not change (blissfully ignorant).
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 22:
Haven't seen the episode, but I did live over there for a year or so - - absolute masters of the polite insult, left-handed compliment, etc. You learn to beware of any statement ending with "Don't you think?"
dennis @ 53:
Whats your point dennis? The only thing it says to me is,that most people have better things to do then sit in front of the boob tube and watch idiots.
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
That was a rather foolish thing for you to say....don't you think?
....um, yes, um, I guess.........
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 72:
Never said you did. I would hope you'd care about accurate and complete information, though. I know that's the underlying premise of the Wright controversy- context, cherry-picking, the whole sermon....remember?
foolme1ns @ 17:
True. What is to be gained by Obama? "Nothing". We all know that Faux Noise is
only watched(or at least 99 percent of the time) by ultra-conservative right wingnuts.
They are not going to be persuaded by anything that Obama has to say and consequently maybe .00001 percent of that low class viewing audience might be persuaded to give him serious consideration when voting.
IF his participation with Wallace on Faux Noise was viewed by a wise, open minded
individuals, then "points" could be gained, however, it is, in my opinion, a waste of
Obama's time and energy to appears....and in fact as others have indicated, sound
bites/clips might very well be used by Faux/McCain to discredit Obama. Not a smart
move on Obama's part to do this.
diamondmc @ 76:
Not watching TV is a revolutionary act. Nothing worrys the elites more then that.
alligatorpear @ 75:
Indeed you are correct, lol!
My sister dated an English guy...we thought he was great at first....so polite, yet so mean. And of course I'm not saying all English folks are like that either...so any limeys out there, don't get yer crumpets in a bunch! ;)
Left&Left @ 69:
If Obama was really in their face he wouldn't have distanced himself from Rev. Wright. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that there was truth to all the statements Wright made. Is there really not racism in the U.S.? Does U.S. foreign policy not contribute to muslim hatred? Get real! Why not have a sensible discussion instead of blindly waving the flag with our heads in the sand?
[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]
dennis @ 79:
And are you trying to tell us we will get that from faux news? Not to bright are we?
L.A. Confidential @ 81:
When people stop worshiping the Church of TV, start thinking, inventing, and actually start working towards their goals then the elites get concerned.
YourMom @ 83:
For those who do not know....On PBS's "Bill Moyers Journal" this evening at 8:00PM CST
Mr. Moyers will be interviewing Rev. Wright. Should be interesting. Check you local
PBS station for time..
I expect Obama to be intelligent, well-reasoned and charming. I expect Wallace to be vacuous, insincere and hypocritical.
Janet @ 71:
I know exactly what you mean and I feel exactly the same way. Frustration times a zillion.
